A song that's a little more up to date, but choreography that can still showcase the fact that you know your stuff and can teach it.

This is a jazz number, of course, given the fact jazz is my background and my comfort zone. I just can't help myself. We used to dance to "keeps gettin' better" but that seems a bit dated. The ladies in my class loved the challenge of the steps and it should be a great certification video as it will show me your ability to teach jazz dance steps. It puts me in a good mood. The other morning, while walking with the kids out to the car, it was playing on the radio and I reached to turn it up. My 15 year old son said, "Mom, I want to listen to Prince". I said, "but I like this song!". He said "In 40 years, is anyone going to remember this song?" Well, maybe not, but TODAY, I happen to like it a lot! (by the way, we listened to Prince but I couldn't handle the WHOLE version of Purple Rain).

If you are new to Phusia, simply download the song, listen for my cue to hit play on your ipod (the cue is 3, 2, 1, "now") Don't get me wrong, I'm motivated, it's just that I want the Summit to be a feather in Phusia's cap. My most recent listen (at 5:30 this morning) was all about why buyers buy. I've always known Phusia is great for dance teachers and students but this talk made me think of why.

Of course, there are the obvious reasons like tap into a different market, make more money, offer the latest in fitness etc but the real reason isn't any of these.

In the middle of the winter, I had some instructors come up from Southern Vermont to get Phusia certified. One of them said, "You've reminded me how much I love to dance". Oh yeah, isn't that why we teach dance though? Of course it is, but really how much time do teachers really have to dance, for themselves? Not much. Enter Phusia. Dance fitness taught by dance teachers who dance with their students. You get to teach, and your students and you get to dance.

Teach it because you love to teach, dance it because you love to dance!

Learn to dance - the Phusia way.

For most dancer's or wannabe dancers, the idea of cardio fitness or dance fitness is just short of stomach turning. I'm not being a snob, I just want my mind to be challenged as well in class and some of the cardio dance out there is mind numbing. If you have two left feet, then by all means, keep marching and "sashaying", but if you are ready for something more challenging - let's go for it.

Yesterday I tried to convince you to give a dance class a try or, if you are still too shy, at least give the internet a try. Again, there are lots of videos out there on YouTube. You could find an instructor you really like just by watching them and listening to their style of teaching. I have some there too, and most are on my site as well. Yesterday, I taught you the chasse. Today. We are going to put that into a dance. This dance has chasses side to side and front and back. It's a good one to really get the chasse down.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxfngM_Nmtg

The whole routine is to, Christina Aguilera's "Keeps Gettin' Better". If you don't have an iPod you should seriously consider getting one. Listening to music, learning to count music is all a part of dancing and an important part of it. Once you learn the steps in this routine, I will give you the full routine. It's fun, not difficult and it will help you learn the chasse. By the way, this could be considered mind numbing for the dancer's out there. I apologize in advance.

Can I learn to dance?

Some people think it's too late to learn to dance once you hit a "certain" age (this age happens to be different for everyone). I have people come into my class from the age of 24-76, some with dance experience, some without any dance history. But it doesn't stop them. What I've realized is, it takes a certain personality (and nerve) to walk into a brand new experience. Vulnerability is powerful. In order to make gains in life though, you need to take chances and taking a dance class for a dance enthusiast might just be taking a chance, but it will be well worth it.

Take a look through adult dance classes offered in your area. Many times they are geared to the beginner. Check out videos on YouTube to get more comfortable with dance steps. There is a lot out there, so beware! And certainly I would encourage you to come and visit www.phusia.com (that's my site). It will teach you some fun moves, all the in the privacy of your home. In fact today, let's learn one.

It's called the chasse. It is simply, step together step. I use it often in my routines. It is something most everyone can get.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Vh5uTFAYTo

So I Think I Can Teach You To Dance - Married with five children (divorced once with four) it took some time for me to get back to my first passion - DANCE. Now, I get to dance and teach quite a bit with a dance fitness class I call Phusia. Dancers might turn there noses up at the idea of a dance fitness class. You can't blame them really, there is quite a bit out there trying to pass as "dance" when in fact it is marching or maybe "sashaying" around the room, which quite frankly makes me CRAZY. So my Zumba class morphed into a dance interval class. We do 12-14 songs, all specifically choreographed to popular music, some are more complicated than others. Former dancers love it as it gives them their dance class fix and they get their workout. Fitness enthusiasts (who are coordinated) love it because it makes them feel like dancers.

I think the planet is ready for a fitness class for dancers. Many of us have moved on or away from our dance classes and had to give them up because life got in the way. Find your way back. Check out Phusia.
